Simplify Homecare Scheduling with Open Schedules

Sagar Kumar, COO and Co-Founder, Verveware

Scheduling a visit does not always mean you know which caregiver will take it. With Verveware’s Open Schedules feature, supervisors can create a schedule first, notify multiple caregivers about the opportunity, and make the assignment after seeing who is interested.

Create a Schedule Without Assigning a Caregiver

Previously, creating a schedule required supervisors to link it to a specific caregiver right away. Open Schedules removes that requirement.

Supervisors can now create a schedule without immediately assigning a caregiver. That means the date and time can be entered into Verveware while the caregiver assignment remains open.

For homecare agencies managing changing caregiver availability, this creates a more flexible scheduling process. Supervisors do not have to delay creating the schedule simply because they have not yet decided who will cover it.

Notify Multiple Caregivers About an Open Schedule

After creating an open schedule, supervisors can add multiple caregivers to it. Each selected caregiver receives a notification asking whether they are available and interested in that date and time.

Caregivers can respond with “Interested” when they want to be considered for the schedule.

Instead of a supervisor having to choose one caregiver before knowing whether that person is interested, the Open Schedules workflow allows caregivers to indicate their availability and interest first.

This gives caregivers more flexibility while giving supervisors a clearer way to manage open visits.

Review Interested Caregivers Before Making the Assignment

Once caregivers respond, supervisors can review everyone who has marked themselves as Interested and decide who should receive the schedule.

The workflow becomes straightforward:

  1. Create the schedule without assigning a caregiver.

  2. Add multiple caregivers to the open schedule.

  3. Caregivers receive a notification and indicate whether they are Interested.

  4. Review the caregivers who responded.

  5. Choose a caregiver and assign the schedule.

The supervisor still controls the final assignment. Open Schedules simply provides a more flexible way to reach that decision.

For agencies using homecare scheduling software to coordinate many caregivers and visits, this can make open schedules easier to manage without forcing an immediate assignment.

Give Caregivers More Flexibility Without Losing Supervisor Control

Open Schedules creates flexibility on both sides of the scheduling process.

Caregivers get an opportunity to express interest in a schedule based on its date and time. Supervisors can see those responses before deciding who to assign.

That is especially useful when a supervisor has several potential caregivers for a visit but does not yet know who wants the schedule. Rather than committing the schedule to one person at creation, the supervisor can open it to multiple caregivers and make the final assignment after responses come in.

The result is a simpler approach to home care scheduling: create the schedule when it is needed, collect caregiver interest, and then assign the caregiver.
